The weather network declared today to be a so called Blue Monday, I decided that it would simply be a field trip Monday. Off I went with pal Gelline to Haven. After months of raving about it like a lunatic I left feeling like a raving lunatic. When entering men's spaces I always feel a hostility in the air. There is a certain  power dynamic that guys don't want to feel is challenged. It's cute if a girl wears her mans clothing, however if she seeks it out on purpose and it isn't Yohji Yamamoto things will go awry. The manner of conversation and nature of questioning that occurred in the store as to my items of interest left me feeling as if an unresolved power struggle was occurring.
Is it really that odd to not just buy men's clothing but to purposely seek it out? Furthermore there was the issue of snapping images of the store. And while I understand the nature of intellectual property I didn't ask for the architectural plans. More than that I was a little dissapointed to find a clothing store full of clothing sourced from South East Asia being helmed by white guys. It made me question how much of the process of sourcing items was authentic, and how much was fueled by the aim to cash in on trends. In the words of Kanye - It's a white man's world we the ones who chose it.
